Re: after school art groups

Date: Tue Mar 05 2002 - 19:58:12 PST

I don't do afterschool due to conflicts, but I offer once a week a "Free Art
Day" for 2-5 grades. I only have three classes that day so have a 3 hour
block of time. I allow up to 10 kids to sign up for a 45 minute session. I
leave it open as to what theycan do and put out available materials. Some
weave, watercolor, create collages or get involved with samples that I'm
making. I don't make it a structured lesson as I don't get the same kids
each week. The kids love and I'll hear them talking about if they'll get to
come. The classroom teachers control who gets to come so it's fair. They can
bring their lunch as part of their time is lunch or recess. It's a great
chance for my gifted kids to expand their knowledge and show me what they
really like to do. Janet
