What age do you teach? I teach elementary and I don't allow the kids to do
the final wash of brushes except watercolor. When we do tempera or acrylic, I
have a bucket of water set aside for the brushes to soak in. I wash them at
the end of class or at the end of the day.I made sure I have enough brushes
so if more than grade level is painting, I have enough without having to rush
to clean them.
My watercolor brushes are given a rinse when finished then set back in a cup.
The sign on the side of the cup says HEADS UP to remind the kids to put away
with the bristles up. It's so cute to see my first graders fuss at someone
up puts their brushes away wrong!
I used to stress out over brushes not cleaned correctly. I do talk about
taking care of brushes with the students but I understand that a kids idea of
clean and mine are totally different! Janet
