I have used everything from my stand oil, linseed oil and cobalt drier to
mineral oil cut with mineral spirits. If leeching oil is a problem then gesso
the paper. We used cattle markers as well as oil pastels in college... the
markers are inexpensive and they come in large sticks, if limited colors.
