I am in an ele. school and each school (HS included) gets a budget alocated
by the individual principal from the total school budget. (so if you have a
supportive principal you get a lot..and if you have a non-supportive
principal, you get a little) For instance, I have over $3000 for almost 400
students. But...I found out that another school I teach in which has about
500 students has an art budget of $9000. Yes....you can pick your jaw up off
the floor!!! I could not believe it. I knew she had more money than I
did...but I had no idea. Now..here is the kicker...in my main school...the
total school budget is only $13,000 for ALL teaching supplies. So I honestly
felt I had gotten quite a large portion just for art. I do not have to buy
supplies for other teachers (although I am as generous as I can be when
people come to me) and have license to buy what I want. So this other
teacher's art budget is almost as much as my entire school's budget!!! Go
figure!!! It is all done proportionately three years in advance...but while
our school is growing...the other school is shrinking.

Budgets are a strange thing!!!
