Re: portfolios

I and my dept, as well as my principal, strongly beleive in sending home
work- esp in the beg. of the yr. -and basically I hold on to any pieces that
are strong possibilities for the art show...thenas I get going on the matting
and tagging, I weed out what I don't want and send it home. REalistically
speaking, there simply isn't enough room for storage of a portfolio for each
kid- plus, I make a big deal out of our initial open house- everyone has
their first project up ,then there's a major pta function at the end of
October where often each kid has an additional thing up around a theme.
I understand the need for "assesment" but these people in ivory towers need
to get a grip on the relaity of the physical limitations to our space and
time-- not to mention, if I have to choose between putting up things to
display and doing bureacratic redtape, the redtape is my last priority.
