I do a fun anticipatory ...I talk about a blender...we make a strawberry
malted milk...I discuss putting in whole big red strawberries, white flowing
milk, hard, cubed shaped ice cubes,,,etc. then I say these are very REAL
things...they look like they are supposed to look and we all know what they
are when we see them....then I say...we push the button of the "blender of
abstract"////buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and we get an abstract of these very real
things.......something that does NOT have big red strawberries, does not have
cubed ice, does not have white milk etc......but still has these things in it
but in a very different form...ABSTRACT. then I move to a face...discuss
what it has on it...and then push the blender button......and she a picasso
face...............the kids love it and the parents even come in with the
story they've been told.....how clever! Hope this helps....it's cute and
the kids can relate.
