Re: Children without art supplies

Date: Thu Mar 08 2001 - 20:40:10 PST

What do you do about children that never seem to
have their art supplies? This is March and still there
are children that don't even have basic supplies of their
own like scissors, crayons, and glue. I am so tired of
hearing " I don't have any scissors, or glue for the
project". I push a cart and sometimes I don't have enough
on the cart for all the"I don't haves" Do you have any
ideas to get them to bring in the necessary supplies for
art class????
Caryn- My weekly schedule- you are tired?? so am I. I have
8- 40 minutes classes on Monday,Tuesday, thursday and Friday,
with a 40 minutes lunch. On Wednesday I finally have a plan
period of 80 minutes after stating there was no plan period
in my schedule when school started, so they gave the other
art teacher my two classes. I have 6-40 minute classes on
Wednesday. This makes a total of 38 classes a week. I can't
begin to remember 1,140 names of children. I feel drained
at the end of each day and I can't begin to tell you how
many times my feet have been stepped on today by children,
not even saying they are sorry.
I have three schools. I push a cart at two and the third
one they gave me an empty classroom that I make into an
art room( no sink) Each school starts at a different time.
Some days 8:45 - 3:15 and other days at 9:20- 3:40. We have
monthly meetings.
