Removing Kiln Wash??

Good Morning Wonderful Wise Ones!!!!
I am in the process of recoating my kiln
shelves....Does anyone have an
easier way of removing old kiln wash??? In the
past, I kept reapplying
over the chipped areas and now I have The Grand
Canyon!!! So time to
strip and start anew!! Any suggestions other that
the ole putty knife??
