(I posted this to someone interested in writing about the value of our
alternate listserv, I suggested that they seek our the artsednet list for a
accurate picture of how a great listserv funtions for its members !! )
Saw your post, on what we all call "the alternate website"(artseducators
@yahoogroups.com). This was started when there were glitches in the main site
we all consider our "lifeline" Getty Artsednet Talk.
Many of us ( art educators, museum educators, and also art material trade
, from all over the country and even a few international )
rely on this list for current information in our field. We exchange lesson
plans, ideas, product info, travel info, opinions about subjects ranging from
art to politics to health issues and family concerns. We have become a very
tight knit group, and panic uusually ensues when the site is down. We really
lean on our fellow artsednet talk members to support us when we are down, or
searching for a product or lesson spark. we trade travel info, on the best
things to see (exhibits, cultural areas great restaraunts) and do in the
places we live or have traveled to. When a fellow member needs a product
review, video review, artist info or even advice on discipline curriculum or
where to stay in Timbuktu. The first place we go to is the artsednet talk
The Getty is kind enough to provide this service to us through a well used
listserv, we are very appreciative to them as our host. Hopefully the
successful interactions and the information exchanged and the very fact that
many of us NEED our daily fix of this site is repayment to the Getty through
knowing that this service does what it was meant to do and is an essential
part of many of our professional lives.
I hope this helps you understand our site a little bit,
You must sign up to the listserv in order to access the list and become part
of th discusions .If you are interested in Art you will find it very useful.
I recommend signing up for the Digest version in order to avoid checking lots
of individual posts.
Sincerely Christine Besack :)
