Barb--for future reference, here is another way to do hieroglyphics in plaster. Use dry wall. It is easy to cut into pieces, simply score with a blade, place cut line along the edge of a table, and push down, easily breaks. The one labor instensive thing is you have to do is remove the layer of paper on one side of the dry wall. Wet using a spray bottle and then rub the paper off with your fingers.
