what can 2nd and 1st carve?

I am doing subtractive sculpture and carved reliefs with my older elementary
kids. We're working with plaster. I am wondering if anybody carves anything
with the younger crowd. Does anyone have a subtractive technique lesson for
grade 1 and 2?
