About 2 months ago there was a discussion on making body
casts. My senoir class is working on making full body
casts. I have to admit this was not my invention but that of my student teacher. I was a bit skeptical at first but so far it's turning out pretty good.
We are using masking tape and newspaper. We divided the
body into sections, arms, legs, feet, hand, etc. We wrap
each with a single sheet of newspaper and wind tape
around overlapping a bit. Then we carefully cut of rip
down one side and tape back together. They stuff the pieces and we assemble it together using more tape and
duct tape (love this stuff). We paired the kids off according to gender and they work with their parteners.
So far about half of them are finished except for their
heads. We intend to give them about 2 coats of paper
mache just to keep the tape from coming loose. Then
they will paint or put clothes on them. If anyone wants more info, such as how we store them, etc. just let me
know. The kid are crazy about this project and so is
the rest of the kids in school who I have to chase out
of my room.
