From me to all you great TeachersIt has been my experience that when it comes to change, music teachers are the WORST! When our district changed to block scheduleing every school we visited (to learn more on how to teach with the new time frame) we were told that music & band teachers were the only ones that didn't like it. Once we started, guess who still isn't completely happy with the changes? I have tried to get our music teacher to integrate into the grant we received (it's PLACE based, where we are teaching students about where they come from - in our case we actually take them out to the prairie to study plants, dig up artifacts, paint landscapes (that's where I come in - I also got to weave with natural dyes w/ 4th grade). I thought it would be neat for the kids to learn songs that the pioneers sang, but it's not contest/concert music, so they didn't. It's a shame, cause I had to fight to be included in this grant, and I'm the one doing the most with it! Good luck, & let me know if you find some success.

I'm wondering if anybody can help me? My district is going to be building and adding 6th grade to the middle school. It was proposed to me that this would be a good opportunity to share time with the music department. (Without time or staff lost to either department) The way I understand the proposal is that it would truly be a integration of art and music. I see it as a chance to do some incredible things, especially in the area of performance. But, the music department is dead set against it. They are even disregarding the opportunity to be part of the core team. I don't want to force anybody to do something against their will, but I wonder that we may be missing a chance to do some really neat stiff.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of integration? How can I convince music that this is a great opportunity?
