I've just finished a paste batik lesson and it went really well. How are
you
doing the batik?

The advanced class are doing a real Batik with melted parafin wax. The Art 1
students did a crayon batik. They drew a simple design (she told them to do
clowns or butterflies, yuk) and color them heavily with bright colors. She
even gave them cards with inanimate objects on them to use as inspiration
(and I use the word inspiration lightly). Next they dipped the finished
piece into water and crumbled it up then laid it on newspaper. Next, they
painted it with thinned down black tempera paint with a little bit of black
dye in it. Then they blotted it and they could also rinse them. When dry,
they mounted them. They turned out real good. The yellow color looks the
best. Light/bright colors look great.
