Yes. This is the way it used to be pronounced when I was growing up (FL,
GA). Since I have been in teaching...the pronunciations of some of the old
names is amazing as well as the names that are created. My daughter's name
is Auby (an aw...sound liken to those of us who refer to our aunts as aunts
rather than ants). Auby is an old family name...she is the 4th generation to
have the name and the 2nd to use it as her name.
