In almost every case I've found that I get more than my money's worth from the $20 Hands-On Workshops. But on the other hand, they're quite limited in numbers of people who can get in. I faxed my registration the day after it arrived to get into my first choices. And the "free" workshops can be every bit as good as the "paid" ones. At any one hour of the day there are many places that you want to be. Sometimes you have to make some tough choices! Go with an open mind to connect with the minds of the various presenters and you can't help but come away with a head brimming with ideas. You will be challenged!
After last year's tesselation workshop with Pam, Nancy and Jim O'Neill I was so impressed that I was able to convince our Art Ed. Dept. at Wichita State University to purchase the entire set of Take 5 prints from Crystal. (I won a single poster in a drawing for door prizes.) What a fabulous resource that is! Then I took the Art+ Math, Art+ Language Arts, Art+ Social Studies and Art+ Science Take 5 sets to a workshop sponsored by Arts Partners for the Wichita Public School classroom teachers. Now Arts Partners wants a set!
The NAEA national conference is the best inservice opportunity I could imagine. If you've ever gone, you'll want to repeat the experience. If you're not planning to go this year, make plans now to go next year. And by the way, I pay my own way--mostly. Sometimes WSU helps me, last year I wrote a grant that paid for my Hands-On Workshops, this year I got a mini-grant from our state organization.
Sincerely,
Marcia, Derby, KS
