I did mine a little differently. I cut the hook off. Made 2 holes in the
wood base with an awl. Bent the wire ends into a modified "s" shape so that
one end went in the hole and the next inch lay on the wood block, then bent
up into the shape. I used carpenters glue in the hole and a wire stapler on
the part that touched the wood. Pulled the stocking over the bent wire and
the base. Knotted on the bottom.
We used DecoArt stoneware paint that makes things look like granite. The
came out fabulous.
