    Hi,

    Here is the update.

This morning I met with my student artist first and told her of the
principal's objections (She had just learned that she was accepted to a very
prestigous school and was very excited about that). I also told her that I
was 100% on her side and would support her. We discussed options and she felt
that students had voted for her picture and should get what they voted for.
She was not totally closed to a compromise and went to the meeting with an
    open mind.

I told her that the first thing she should tell the principal was about her
acceptance letter. He was impressed. he then explained that he was afraid
that an adult or parent might get the wrong impression about the school and
create a problem if they saw her painting on a door.

I brought her painting along and after more discussion about the problems we
moved on to trying to reach a compromise. In the end she felt comfortable
with putting a jersey on the figure and perhaps putting David in shorts so
that people could she the reference.

Later in the day when i told my classes what had happened my students were
shocked that the principal had a problem with the picture. They didn't think
it was fair to change the picture. One sixth-grader put his hands over his
eyes and and asked if that was what the principal did when he went to a
    museum.

In the end we got some good discussion out of the experience and the mural
    will be done, with changes.

    Harold
