The school I teach at already goes year-round, on a 9-on, 3-off schedule. Let me tell you, that three week break is such a re-energizer! Our most recent break went from just before Christmas through the second week in January, and it was the perfect amount of time to reflect, read, formulate ideas, and generally recharge.
As for not being able to take summer courses, perhaps if year-round school became more common, colleges/universities would offer more flexible (three-week? :)) courses for educators!
