I have banned backpack or other bags from my classroom. A couple of weeks
ago the makings of a pipe bomb were found in one of my student's backpacks.
I was with this student 2 class periods back-to-back in the computer lab. He
left and went to his next class, opened his backpack and "found" the pipe
bomb.
That was enough for me. No more bags in my room. There have been a few
complaints but after some discussion the majority of the students agreed it
was a much better idea. Maybe your students would rather leave the bags in
their lockers rather than buy more supplies.
