The original question came from Beth in PA.
You are correct in stating that PA does not yet have standards in place,
although promised every month. From the draft, I am assuming they will
follow the National Standards pretty closely. But keep in mind, here in PA,
a school district can adopt their district goals and objectives in lieu of a
lack of state standards in a particular area.
Be careful what you write. I always ask myself first "is this what I want
to teach?" If it is in writing you better be doing it.
When I wrote our middle school curriculum my main concern was that 8th grade
is the LAST time our students are required to take art. What do I want a
student to know at that time if he/she never takes another art class?
"Learn to measure accurately" doesn't figure very prominently to me.
Your local IU should have a resource library with all the resources you need
to write curriculum. You don't have to reinvent the wheel when writing. I
have found a multitude of resources on the web - some of the best are
    Canadian and British.

    Good luck,
    Patty
