One of the highlights of my art school days at the University of Delaware was a
"Black Artists" series. Bearden came and spent a week with us. He was quiet,
unassuming, very interested in US (the art students, of which there were about 50)
and most concerned about art ed. One night we had a spaghetti supper at someone's
apartment, and we all talked into the night, sitting around a fire. I believe he
even spent the night there. I had never heard of him before that series, and have
wished so many time since I could remember that evening a bit better.

Anyway, no way could he be Duke Ellington's grandson, they were contemporaries I
believe ... without going to the books and looking at dates, this is my impression.
