Talk to the teacher, if no change in curriculum, consider removing your daughter.

Ok, gang, help me out. Some of you know me, others may not, but I have a
situation I'd like advice on. I teach HS art in a district with 7 art
teachers. Until recently, my daughter (1st grade) had art classes with a
really good art teacher. Projects were creative, and I could see design
and aesthetics being taught. She recently had to change schools, and is
now with the "other" elementary specialist. I can't believe what I'm
seeing - xerox sheets which the kids cut out and color, almost all
seasonal. I'm not an elementary specialist, but I helped write our
district curriculum, and I don't remember anything about endless coloring
book projects.
This person was counseled out of classroom teaching, then out of Title 1
reading, and now she has landed in art, where she seems safe, because it's
"just art". I'm not only worried about the effect on my daughter & other
students, but also about the future of our district's art program and what
this says about the district's committment to quality programs. Any
advice? - Dennis in Wyo.
