    Importance: High

    Announcement

    The Workers' Educational Association (WEA)
Newcastle upon Tyne Branch, is holding
an arts residential weekend in May. This
is open to all adults. Details are as follows:

    ****************************************
    Residential Arts Appreciation Weekend,
    Music, Art and Literature: 'EMPIRES'

    Sat/Sun May 13th and 14th 2000
The Centre of Britain Hotel, Haltwhistle
    Northumberland, UK.

Tutors: Simon Terry, Ann Alexander, Bob Groves

This two-day residential even may also be booked
as separate day schools if necessary.
    Fees:
£120 full residential (inc. all tuition,
all meals and drinks, single room)
    £110 shared room (as above)
£36 either Saturday or Sunday only
    (inc. meals, drinks and tuition)
£64 Saturday only with evening meal
£67 both Sat. and Sun. (non-residential)

This is the 12th annual WEA Arts residential.
It takes as its theme 'Empires' - and the arts
that were their product. We will look at the
music, art and writing that evolved from the various
imperial periods in world history (for instance,
the Roman Empire, the British Empire, the
Soviet 'empire', etc.) and chart the influence
that this inheritance has had on our present
artistic world. No specialist knowledge is
needed to take part, only a keen interest in all
the arts and their historical context.

The venue is a historic small hotel in the market
town of Haltwhistle, deep in the heart of the
    peaceful Northumbrian countryside, near
to the Roman Wall and amongst some of the most
beautiful scenery in the North of England

Those interested in booking a place should
contact Bob Groves by emailing bobgroves
(please don't reply to the e-list itself)

Please print and pass on or forward this message
    to any other interested person.

    ****************************************

    Thank you!
