I teach 24 classes of 30 elementary students per wk, I, have set up 8
tables , 4/table ,on the back of each chair I have written in perm marker
A B C D. On the board i write job descriptions ie a=assemble pencil for
everyone at table B= bottles of glue C= carry paper to tables D=
deliver dampened rags for cleanup, etc. We all do floor checks and
    sometimes
their ticket out the door is to show me 5 or more scraps and they pitch
it on their way out ,we have credit cards that they get points on for
good clean-ups, when the class gets 15 points we get a treat, jr hi
students get a jeans day since we have a dress code . It's been
    ingrained
in them since i've had my students for over 12 years to do an effecient
clean up ,I also use a lot of praise for their cooperation and always
brag to their homeroom teachers . If one class sometimes makes a big
spill on my carpets(can you believe an art room with carpet) the other
class will often ask for a point to clean it up better! This system works
well foir all grade levels, usually the younger ones fight over who is
going to do the jobs while the older students decide wdho's niot going to
do anything! We put our chailrs up on the table each night and they are
not always taken down the same dway each day , so if they are an "A" chair
they may be a differeent letter the following week. i also chair seating
arrangements each quarter! It works for me!adios, annie
