I actually started my teaching career in 1975, but then, after 6 years, took
20 years off to raise my kids. Now my kids are both in college and I'm back
full time teaching high school art. The timing is perfect for me. I bring
a sense of maturity and a comfort level related to teenagers that I didn't
have way back when. I have lots of time for my job because there's no one at
home dependent on me. I can get involved and participate in after school
activities, work late if I want etc. etc. Teaching has never been better.
Tell your friend to go for it. It's a wonderful stage of life to begin or
    to renew a teaching career.
