I have worked with some excellent art/arts coordinators. Some were visual
art people...some were music people. All of these positions were full time
system level...county/main office/etc. They did all of the things you have
thought about plus they were in charge of securing the budget for the
art/arts program. This represented the major equipment/supply purchases for
each of the school art/music programs. Some were in charge of coordinating
the the fine arts events and facilities...auditorium/theater/studios etc.
They worked with scheduling, curriculum development and staff development.
These people had a full time head ache. Out of the 4 I have worked for only
one was a do nothing. The other three earned their title and their salaries.
(These were 4 different systems...large systems...in GA and OK)
One thing that was also obvious were the educational politics involved.
The number of schools...teachers etc will decide whether one day a week is
even reasonable. Having talked to one warehouse director...getting 3 quotes
on all supplies in order to get the best price for the system...was a
different full time position.
Keep on researching before you decide. On an optimistic note: you might open
the door for greater things for your system and peers.
Good Luck
