Timing is always in someone else's hands. We were in the middle of a
    Black History
assembly. Some speeches and music by students, and when the vocal group
    was about to
sing a song written for the tragedy in Columbine, the principal took the
    mike. Seems
as if one of our autistic students had collapsed and died on the way to
    school that
very morning. Tragedy is a learning experience that my students seem to
    be learning
on a regular basis lately. When permission slips go home to ride the
    school bus to the
funeral of a classmate, the real world is getting a little too close.
    The page is dedicated
    to Rodney http://Kancrn.kckps.k12.ks.us/rosedale/duncan/RMSmoviepage2.html
the song is "We Might Heal". This was on February 25th. I got the news
    when he was
rushed to the hospital, from an aide. The same aide came back a bit
    later needing
comfort for her tears with the news that Rodney did not make it. Then
    we left for
the assembly. Maybe it was the best time to tell everyone. I'm glad I
    didn't have to
    make the announcement.
