    Dear Sharon:

When I mix plaster and water, I generally forget about the half
water/plaster formula. Instead I fill a gallon bleach jug (top part cut
off) with water to halfway or little less. Then I sift in the plaster
powder until it builds up an island in the center of the bowl and the
plaster stops sinking so quickly. If the top layer of water looks a little
creamy, it is time to stop adding plaster and stir it up thoroughly,
squeezing lumps out with your fingers. I do not shake it. After you have
poured the plaster into the molds, gently pick them up about a half inch
off the table if you can and let them drop back--this will "burp" out any
air bubbles in the plaster. Depending on the humidity of your climate, you
may have some water "sweat" on the top of the plaster after it sets. Blot
it off and try to put plaster molds in a sunny dry place for awhile.
Hope you have success with your lesson. Please write back if you
    need further clarification.
