I've been there - my room looks like the picture of Calder's studio in the
back of the 'Calder's Circus' book.. one principal wrote me up for anything
out of place!!! Cardboard boxes on top of cabinets (that actually didn't
look bad - and were storage) were 'discipline problems' - news to me!!!
And I had a glass of iced tea on my desk -
and she couldn't stand my husbands first grade classroom either - she
actually let a group of parents come in after he had left, go through his
stuff, cover anything that wasn't moving with contact paper (to
    coordinate!!!) - that was fun...

I have had principals that organize their space as I do - and want
    productive rooms -
a former principal and now superintendent (one school district) is very neat
    - complete opposite of me - but is also extremely tolerant!!!

I liked the suggestion sent about the list of items you would need to help
with storage in the room -
    Good luck
