I must respectfully disagree with the negative comments about NAEA and, instead, afirm that the organization does work for the benefit of teachers and students. As a long-term NAEA member, I know the efforts that have been and continue to be made. (The development of national standards for the arts resulted from NAEA's collaboration with other national arts organizations is just one example.)
I do believe that the success of an organization is a result of the involvement of its members. I know firsthand that almost every position held in NAEA is voluntary, not paid. I also know that each of you can contribute to NAEA's efforts. If you have suggestions about a list serv at NAEA, e-mail your ideas to them. We were fortunate to have the support of the Getty for so long (and I certainly want it to continue) but let's give NAEA a chance, too.
Regards,
Nancy Walkup
