It really doesn't matter what your rules are as long as they are fair and
consistently enforced. Post the rules, go over the rules and then enforce them
EVERY TIME. Keep in mind that you are not there to be the students' friend.
You are there to be their teacher. It would be great if you could be both, but if
you must choose, choose teacher.
Years ago, I got hired three weeks after school started, after the kids ran off
their previous teacher. It took awhile (a year or so) but eventually word got
around that I didn't put up with stupid crap, and now I rarely have to send
anyone to the office. Just be consistent, and wait. Things will work out.
