People tend to be quick to criticize students sometimes for their behavior
problems... so I wanted to share what happened in one of my high school
classes this week.
I have been working on something important for the school, so at times I've
had to leave my class for a few minutes. One day, I was standing in the
hall as my students entered the classroom. Before I was able to go in and
get them started, I was called away to help make a decision about
something...and it ended up being 25 minutes before I got to my classroom.
When I went in, I went to check the attendance on the scan sheet. A student
told me that he had already done that and had put the scan sheet out to be
picked up. Then I took a look around the room and saw that ALL of the
students had gotten their work out and were all quiet and busily working as
if I had been there the whole time. They were actually quieter than they
usually are. I was really proud of that class...since then, I've had to
leave them again (without a teacher in charge)...and they came through again
for me.
It's wonderful to have classes like this.
