I find it interesting that some teachers on this list are aghast at
    the idea that kids will
call a teacher a bitch and consider the teacher is probably the one
    at fault when this
happens. Goodness...I've not met a human yet who doesn't make
    mistakes. I think, though,
that the point is lost here about what is probably "really"
    happening in most cases.

I've actually never had a student call me a bitch to my face (I'd break both
legs if they did) but I have see it written on a wall maybe 4 times in the
12 years I've been at this
middle school. My wall is the most distanced part of the campus and about
twice a year we get some marvelous graffiti. This year someone outdid
themselves. I was called a "hoe"...and I might add their drawing skills
lacked refinement. I came out better, actually, than most of the other
teachers. Strange thing is I've never taught him or talked to him. It was
just that my wall was convenient, I guess. Middle school kids who are angry
for other reasons make stupid, mis-directed mistakes against others without
thinking. It's that age...maybe some of you see the same in your HSers. I
know I did when I taught HS. We live in a white-bread community, upper
middle class so it's not the economics that drives this. I wonder where ELSE
    we could point the finger...hum?

Kids DO say bitch out of context...many times. It's cool, hip, and garners
the necessary accolades from friends. It's just mostly kept amongst
themselves and rarely verbally directed to a teacher. Anyone who says
otherwise is just not "listening"...at least in our neck of the woods.
    Toodles.....

PS...As an aside....probably the funniest moment of my entire teaching
career was walking up to my expansive windows one Monday morning and having
the entire window area spray-canned with "Nice teacher". Don't know where
THAT one came from either. I was bummed when maintenance came and washed it
    away!
