    I tell them a version of the truth. It doesn't count towards moving to the
    next grade, but it does count towards thier overal CUM (then I explain what
    a CUM is). I also tell them these grades will always be on thier (dare I
    say it) permament record, and it doesn't look to good if the fail art.
    Someone always says you have to be a real jerk to fail art, because if you
    do your work you get a good grade. Stangely this (peer pressure) is the
    best motivator.
