See what materials and resources are in your classroom and school, if you need things let your supervisor know and hopefully they will be supportive. Establish your own climate and discipline policies immediately without insulting the students, seating chart, standards for work/rubric, classroom behaviors and expectations for assignments and clean-up. Share your own best skills and talents with the students to earn their respect, have a sense of humour and good luck.

I just got a job teaching art at the middle/high school level. I start in
a few days. The original art teacher has been on med. leave for a few
weeks, so the classes have turned into lord of the flies. I am as nervous
as excited to go into this situation, and would greatly appreciate ANY
advise a more experienced teacher could offer. Some of my greater concerns
are: how to set a standard of discipline at such a late date in the school
year; what types of media make for good student/teacher introduction
lessons; to what degree should i clean the slate and start with a brand new
    curriculum.
ANY other help is greatly appreciated
                                           THANK YOU
