HI
I followed a "teacher" that also drew/painted/corrected students work. The
kids (9-12) couldn't stand it and when she did, they just gave it in and
stopped working on it.
When the kids ask me "what do you want me to do next" I always ask them if
it's my art or their art? If I do it or tell them what to do, it's no longer
theirs and it is a form of plagiarism because it's mine. I tell them I want
them to use their mind, their imagination and their own ideas. When they
truly need help, I use tracing paper over their drawing to give suggestions
and to make sure they understand the technique. Once they say they do, I
take the tracing paper with me.
I was recently told that the kids like the fact that I don't re-do their
ideas. It felt good!
As far as contests go, we are not required, but I make them available to all
who are interested and usually prod the "talented" ones to give it a try.
Peace
Gabrielle
