I do not doctor my student's work. I feel if I even put one line on it
the work no longer becomes the student's. There are times when I come close
to crossing that line. I always tell the student when I am getting close and
why I won't physically draw on their work.
In regards to art shows, although I know there are some negative
thoughts on this point, I have a different opinion. I look at an art show as
an opportunity to show one's work. It's a pride thing I guess. Instead of
hanging the work on the refridgerator, it's hung for everyone to see. I
understand how assigning values to student work can cause negative effects.
However, I don't think one should put work into a show (at this level)
purely for monetary or material reasons. Personally, it should be for that
good feeling - hey, look what I did.
