I understand your sentiments, Anna!
I usually have kids in the art room and don't go up to the teacher's room
for lunch. The free time I spend with them is such an inspiration! They're a
real hoot!
Anyway, one day this week many of the regulars art lunch kids were on a
field trip, so I had an opportunity to eat with the other teachers. The
conversation was about stuff like alcoholic parents rumored to be drinking
again, judgmental talk about the character of a few at risk students, some
disgraceful affair someone is having...all sorts of stuff I realized I could
do without. I realized...again...that I prefer eating with the kids!
Of course if the administration required me to eat with the kids everyday,
without a scheduled break, all this would be a very different pickle. But
they don't require it. They just don't know what a good deal they're
getting. So it goes...
