About two months ago I asked for information and personal experiences
regarding teaching overseas. This past weekend, I attended the UNI Overseas
fair in Waterloo, Iowa. What a busy weekend! On Friday I received my packet,
which included requests from 13 different schools around the world for
interviews. I turned down some right away, but still ended up with about 13
interview sessions, in part because of a few second round interviews.
Three international schools offered me a position (Honduras, Cairo, Mali)
and they wanted an answer before the fair ended. After an agonizing
decision-making overnight on Saturday, I decided to take the Mali position.
I'll be teaching computers K-8 to an international school of 80 students in
the country's capitol of Bamako. I'm excited about the opportunity!
Thanks to all who emailed me with advice and information. There are jobs out
there!
