    Stains.......

    I agree that the mason stains are the best way to add color for younger
    students. I Add it to slip ( watered down clay) and paint with it when the
    clay is wet or when it is leather hard. Then you fire as normal to bisque.
    Paint the clear glaze over top and fire again to intensify the colors.

    I use this method because it is easier to remove colored slip on wet or
    leather hard clay if I mess it all up. And it is easier to create detailed
    color areas with the colored slip stains.

    We used old peanut butter containers to hold the slip then we experimented
    by adding different amounts of stains to the slip.
