Jill,
In our state of Texas, a Fine Arts is required to graduate. Of course,
if not in band, choir, orchestra, or theater, they are placed in the
mickey mouse class - Art. At this time all students on the recommended
plan have to take it, our district went one step farther and required it
for all levels so, they do have to pass. The students that are not
very self motivated, absent a lot, or just dont care- dont pass. I
personally have two seniors at this time who will not graduated because
of absences and thinking they could take it in summer school. We have
five art teachers in the high school and all of us had at least 25%
failure this last trimester (going off tri next year and onto semester
yea) I do understand your frustration for I have been there.
