Dear List,
We have been approached by other cultural groups to coordinate our
summer programs. The current plan is for us to continue to do the same
programs we have done in the past, just coordinate the times. The idea is to
have a morning program and an afternoon program at each site with the same
lunch break. The school district would provide transportation from our sites
to the summer lunch program and from the summer lunch program to another
art/cultural program. For example a 3rd grader might attend our art program
in the morning, catch a school bus to one of 7 elementary schools for lunch
(no charge for anyone under 18), then go to the enrichment program at that
elementary school or to the theater's children's workshop. Parents would
pick the children up from their afternoon activities. The school had a
similar program last year with in their community education program. It
worked for them.
Has anyone on the list participated in a community wide summer program? How
do y'all organize the activities and transportation? I'm worried about the
kids getting to the right location - it has been suggested that the parents
would fill out nametags that would include the name of the afternoon program
they would attend. Last year we had kids who would stay for different
lengths of time (for 1, 2, or 3 classes) we color coded their tags so that
the teachers would know who was suppose to leave when + it was on the roll
sheet. That worked very well for us.
