Until I was in eighth grade, there was no art teacher in the schools in our
area. Although I loved to draw, there were so many class artists who did
cartoons and action figures that I never felt "talented" as they were. When
away at church camp in 5th grade, I entered a sketch of the campside lake
for the cover of the week newspaper. For 3 years, I did the covers for this
newspaper and became known to this large group of people as an artist. Wow,
what a high to feel special for doing something people admired!

Thanks for starting this discussion because I had forgotten this memory.
Everyone's stories have really touched me and reminded me why I went into
this profession!
