I think I was four or five, and had scribbled all over a blank piece of
paper. I had colored all the different shapes within the scribble all
different colors. "Look, Mommy!" I shouted, and when she saw my doodles, she
exclaimed "Ohhh, that's a collage" and I repeated that beautiful French
sounding word in my head, and I think that is when I knew I was an artist. I
told my mother this, and she did not remember. I know that it was because I
was encouraged. That is why I feel so strongly that to encourage all
children in the arts is so important. Especially the ones that say "I can't."
