Hi. Talking about birthday cakes and 25th birthdays. The Akureyri school of
Visual Art celebrated itīs 25th birthday this year and one of the projects
I did with the youngest students ages 4 to 8 was painted birthday cakes in
the style of Andy Warhol. We talked about giving our school a real fancy
birthday cake, then we looked at some wonderful silkscreens by Andy
Warhol(also some coloured pen and ink drawings). They are really fantastic.
The children loved talking about them. Then they got a fairly big piece of
brown construction paper 40cm x 40cm. and tempera paint and the cake they
were to paint had to be as big as the paper. To make a long story short!
the birthday cakes were wonderful, everyone was commenting on them, apart
from that the children loved making them. I then hung them up all together
28 of them really close together and they made a wonderful exhibition.
Best regards from the far north, Rosa
