Sorry, I've been too busy to respond sooner.

From what I've studied in my art education college days, was to use art
history as a base. Than you can integrate many things off of that, e.g.
scientific inventions, literature of the time, politics, etc. Artistically
you
can do lessons on clothes design, teach historic style-renaissance
(perspective), baroque, realists, impressionistic (brushwork, color),
European
artists who were influenced by non-western art--(Gaugin and Picasso). Make
brochures/ posters on historical events. Do a unit on exploration, like
Columbus and Lewis and Clark-what type of cultures and art would they come
across? The possibilities are endless.--Maria

I am a new member of the ArtsEdNet and the educational programmes director
at The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands. I have been assigned the
task of developing an arts ed. programme to be implemented within our
primary schools in September. This is a tremendous advancement in the arts
within our islands. From researching various methods used in the US,
Canada, the UK and other Caribbean Islands, I have concluded that the DBAE
approach would best suit our needs, and would be most adaptable to our
educational system.

Though an artist by trade, I have no teaching experience (except for the
occasional workshop) upon which to base this educational plan. I have
ordered materials to assist in creating a curriculum, and have a list of
volunteers willing to teach the classes. The initial idea is to supplement
the existing arts programmes, though minimal at most schools, with a sort
of DBAE structured visiting artist programme.

If anyone can offer opinions/assistance/materials/experiences towards
achieving this, I welcome, and appreciate, the input.

Paul Jordison
