Carolyn et al,
Interestingly enough the "Math in a Basket" curriculum developed by the
NC artist / basketmaker, Billie Ruth Sudduth has just been recently
published in cooperation with Piedmont Craftsmen, which she is an
exhibiting member. Billie Ruth has done an arts in education project
with our school system focused on this curriculum and some time ago
worked in another part of our state as well. Coincidentally we just
recently shared this on the ECU statewide teleconference led by Dr.
Cynthia Bickley-Green which focused on statewide art education efforts
with interdisciplinary instruction. Billie Ruth directly uses the
principles of Fibonacci in her work, and teaches them as well. I
understand that recently the Smithsonian has become interested in Billie
Ruth's work, and that last year she was distinguished with the statewide
honor as a NC Treasure.
