Carla et al,
I did some encaustic painting years ago, at the beginning of my career
without much prior knowledge of the technique, with students and enjoyed
the experimented process. Last year we did a bit of encaustic
exploration along with a visiting artist to a local museum. The artist,
Sue Moore was once a student of Jacob Albers and Jacob Lawrence at the
Black Mountain College, NC. Encaustic has been a consistent medium and
technique for her over the years. Sue also scratches textures into the
wax after application of the wax pigment, and/or alternates applications
of wax with etching textures. Students and I, last year, experimented a
bit with these techniques applicable to encaustic and really enjoyed it.
