NM et al,
My advice regarding interviewing art teacher candidates is to expect ,
suggest or require a portfolio. Samples (photos or slides) of student
artworks, sample lesson plans, a resume and artworks by the prospective
candidate are worth a thousand words. As a lead art teacher for our
district, I have assisted in interviewing many candidates over the last
few years. The portfolio assists in propelling good and appropriate
interview discussion. The candidate's natural enthusiasm for teaching
can be noted too. The lack of a portfolio says a lot too for those who
cannot muster up the ingredients that would compose one.
